Bespoke furniture for hydroponics laboratory:
Aston University Sixth Form and Engineering Academy offer an excellent education for students wishing to pursue careers particularly in engineering, science, health, or business. Located in the heart of Birmingham, the academy is situated on a beautiful campus with state-of-the-art facilities.
Combined office interiors were delighted to be part of the hydroponics laboratory refurbishment. The project involved the installation of bespoke furniture including purpose-built laboratory benches, storage, stools, lighting, and also a Belfast sink.
The results are an attractive and modern innovative space for students to learn and develop in a bright and airy environment.
But what is hydroponics? Hydroponics is basically a method of growing plants in water without the use of soil. The roots of the plants are suspended in a solution of water and nutrients, and the plants are generally grown under controlled conditions of light and temperature.
The Solution
The lab’s furniture is designed to accommodate the specialised equipment used in hydroponics research, and it includes a variety of custom-made laboratory benches made with Trespa tops. Trespa is made from a unique, thermosetting resin that is extremely durable and easy to clean. The smooth, non-porous surface of the Trespa Top is resistant to stains, scratches, and spills, making it an ideal work surface for any laboratory.
Additionally, the laboratory benches were designed with above-the-head shelving with LED lighting routed on the underside of the shelves.
A classic white finish was chosen for the laboratory benches, with Postura + ‘Grape’ coloured seat stools selected especially for their superior ergonomic posture and
comfort, which also helped make a colourful statement in a clinical-style environment.
