Flexible and innovative loose educational furniture refurbishment for new teaching facility in Newport, Wales:
Located in Newport, Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed (YGGIC) recently opened a new build teaching block ahead of schedule after replacing an out-of-date 1950’s building. This bright and innovative facility gives pupils and staff access to various state-of-the-art amenities such as new classrooms, staff rooms, offices, canteen, and assembly hall.
Thanks to this modern upgrade, the school has also seen its capacity grow from 500 to 900 students; making YGICC a leader in Welsh language education and providing those learning there with an enriched educational experience.
With an ongoing relationship with the school, our project manager collaborated with the school’s business team to understand the requirements and needs of the school, utilising the ESPO 282 framework to especially provide the best value products and services.
Our proposal was designed to provide the main building and Sixth Form with a comfortable and flexible environment for all students and staff. We included space planning recommendations, as well as loose furniture selections that were both attractive and durable including chairs, tables, desking, and benches.

The new build teaching block has fostered both unity and flexibility among students thanks to its versatile furnishings and innovative layout.

IT Suite / Study Space
To ensure maximum available workspace, we supplied a number of rectangular-shaped cantilever-style desks to fit around the perimeter of the room, each one equipped with cable management baskets that provide much-needed orderly organisation for all wires and cords.
We also supplied a number of ergonomic task back chairs with 3 lever mechanisms finished in Xtreme fabric.
Office Space
To accommodate the needs of the office space, we provided a cantilever-style desk, with a storage pedestal, and an ergonomic task chair, alongside visitor tub-style chairs, with chrome feet and low coffee-style tables.
Sixth Form Social Area
To accommodate the busy social area for older students, we supplied modular soft seating with lounge chairs, and coffee style tables. All of the seating was upholstered in vinyl that is easy to clean and extremely durable.
Additionally, we supplied poseur height bench tables with high stools for focused time alone or with other students.
